Official Maintenance Plan Honda CB650R (2025) - Complete Guide
Official maintenance guide for the Honda CB650R 2025. Discover its 12,000 km intervals, valve adjustment, E-Clutch version, and its unusual chain tension.
The Honda CB650R (2025) is the ultimate expression of the Neo Sports Café philosophy. Powered by a refined 649cc inline four-cylinder engine delivering 95 HP, it's a favorite choice for both A2 (restricted) and A license holders. For its 2025 version, Honda has introduced the revolutionary E-Clutch option, an electronic clutch system that allows gear changes without using the clutch lever. Its maintenance reflects the legendary reliability of the golden wing brand, with convenient 12,000-kilometer intervals and a very low internal friction engine. We invite you to explore other Official Honda Maintenance Plans.
Maintenance Interval Table
Honda structures the preventive service plan for the CB650R in regular cycles of 12,000 kilometers or 1 year, leaving more in-depth engine interventions for 24,000 km. To better manage your bike's history, you can add it to My Garage.
| Mileage | Time | Main Tasks to Perform |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 km | 1 Month | Break-in: Engine oil and oil filter change. Clutch system check (and E-Clutch system calibration if equipped). Bolt check and chain tension. |
| 12,000 km | 1 Year | Annual Service: Engine oil change. Inspection of brake pads, fuel system, cooling system, and crankcase breather cleaning. Connection to the Honda Diagnostic System. |
| 24,000 km | 2 Years | Major Service: Valve clearance inspection. Oil and oil filter change. Mandatory brake fluid change. Emissions control system (EVAP) inspection. |
| 36,000 km | 3 Years | Standard Service: Repeat tasks from 12,000 km. Radiator coolant replacement (mandatory by time every 3 years). |
| 48,000 km | 4 Years | Comprehensive Grand Service: New valve adjustment/inspection, oil and filter change, brake fluid change, and replacement of the 4 iridium spark plugs. |
Note: Although the official manual may extend the oil filter change to 24,000 km, it is strongly recommended mechanically to replace the filter with every oil change (every 12,000 km).
Critical Maintenance Points
- Engine Oil and Capacity: The four-cylinder engine requires SAE 10W-30 oil that meets JASO MA and API SJ (or higher) specifications. The exact crankcase capacity when drained and filter changed is 2.6 Liters (2.3 Liters if you strangely decide not to change the filter). If the engine has been completely disassembled, the capacity increases to 3.0 Liters.
- Unusual Chain Slack: This is a very common mistake in home garages. Unlike other naked bikes that require between 25-35 mm, the CB650R manual demands exceptionally wide transmission chain slack: between 43 and 48 mm. Overtightening it will ruin the engine output shaft bearings. It must be cleaned and lubricated religiously every 1,000 km.
- Specific Iridium Spark Plugs: This high-revving engine uses special iridium spark plugs NGK IMR9E-9HES (or DENSO VUH27ES). The electrode gap is pre-calibrated at 0.8 - 0.9 mm and should not be adjusted manually under any circumstances to avoid breaking the iridium tip. Their complete replacement is scheduled for 48,000 km.
- Constant Tire Pressure: The CB650R is fitted with 120/70-ZR17 tires at the front and 180/55-ZR17 at the rear. Honda specifies that cold pressure must be strictly 2.5 BAR (36 psi) on the front wheel and 2.9 BAR (42 psi) on the rear wheel, regardless of whether you are riding alone or with a passenger and luggage. You can find nearby tire shops in our directory.
- Fluids by Time: The braking system requires DOT 4 fluid and must be renewed every 2 years. The cooling system (which has a capacity of 2.50 Liters) requires silicate-free coolant pre-mixed at 50% (Pro Honda HP Coolant) and must be replaced every 3 years.
