The Suzuki GSX-S1000 (2022) is one of the most powerful hyper-naked motorcycles in its segment, powered by the legendary four-cylinder engine inherited directly from the GSX-R1000 superbike (K5 generation). Other models from the brand, such as the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT (2023), also share this philosophy. As a machine designed to offer blistering acceleration and aggressive street performance, its official service plan is strict with the ignition system and the cleaning of its throttle bodies. Adhering to its maintenance will ensure that its advanced electronics and its formidable torque operate with legendary Suzuki reliability. Maintenance Interval Table

Suzuki's official service plan for the GSX-S1000 structures the main inspections in cycles of 12,000 kilometers or 12 months (whichever comes first).

MileageTimeMain Tasks to Perform
1,000 km2 MonthsBreak-in: Engine oil and oil filter change. Tightening of chassis and exhaust bolts. Chain slack check.
12,000 km1 YearAnnual Service: Engine oil change. Strict spark plug replacement. Throttle body synchronization and cleaning. Air filter and fuel hose inspection.
24,000 km2 YearsMajor Service: Oil change and oil filter replacement. Spark plug replacement. Valve clearance inspection. Brake fluid replacement. Emission control system inspection.
36,000 km3 YearsAir filter replacement. New oil and spark plug change. General inspection of radiator hoses, steering bearings, and suspensions.

What Happens After 36,000 km?

Once the initial 36,000 km cycle is completed, the service manual indicates that maintenance tasks should be repeated cyclically (omitting the initial break-in service):

  • 48,000 km: A new comprehensive Major Service is due (identical to the 24,000 km service), where valve clearance will be checked again, the oil filter will be changed, and hydraulic fluids will be replaced.
  • 60,000 km: The tasks from the basic annual service at 12,000 km are repeated.

Critical Maintenance Points

  • High-Frequency Spark Plugs: To ensure optimal combustion and prevent sputtering in the aggressive "A-Mode" (Active) power map, Suzuki requires all 4 spark plugs to be replaced every 12,000 km, a much shorter interval than in other competing brands.
  • Oil Filter Peculiarity: According to Suzuki's table, engine oil should be changed every 12,000 km, but the oil filter replacement is scheduled for every 24,000 km. However, many specialists recommend changing the filter at every service as a preventative measure.
  • Injection Cleaning: It is mandatory to inspect and clean the throttle body passages (Throttle bore cleaning) and perform their synchronization every 12,000 km to maintain smooth throttle response. For a complete guide, consult which parts to retire from your motorcycle.
  • Transmission Chain: Having to manage over 150 HP to the rear wheel, the chain undergoes intense wear. It is imperative to inspect, clean, and lubricate it every 1,000 km (600 miles) without fail. If you have any doubts, consult our motorcycle forum.
