Official Yamaha MT-07 (2019) Maintenance Plan - Complete Guide
Official maintenance guide for the best-selling Yamaha MT-07 (2019). Learn about oil change intervals, capacities, and inspection of its CP2 engine.
The Yamaha MT-07 (2019) is one of the most successful and best-selling naked motorcycles on the market, ideal for both A2 license holders and experienced riders. Its reliability stems from its acclaimed 689 cc CP2 (Crossplane 2) parallel-twin engine. It is an extremely robust engine, but to maintain its characteristic low and mid-range torque delivery, it requires strict adherence to oil changes, chain care, and periodic inspection of the fuel injection system and spark plugs.
Maintenance Interval Table
According to Yamaha's official manuals for this model, periodic service intervals are structured by combining mileage or time (whichever comes first), with main cycles marked every 7,000 km. For other Yamaha motorcycles, you can consult our Yamaha MT-09 SP Maintenance Plan.
| Mileage | Time | Main Tasks to Perform |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 km | 1 Month | Break-in: Engine oil and oil filter change. Clutch free play, brake, and chain tension check. |
| 7,000 km | 6 Months | Minor Service: Engine oil change. Spark plug inspection, brake, hose, clutch, and steering check. |
| 13,000 km | 12 Months | Annual Service: Engine oil change and oil filter replacement. Spark plug replacement. In-depth inspection of the fuel injection system and brake fluid. |
| 19,000 km | 18 Months | Repeat the tasks from the 7,000 km minor service (oil change, spark plug inspection, and general checks). |
| 25,000 km | 24 Months | Major Service: New oil, oil filter, and spark plug change. Comprehensive inspection of suspension and bearings. |
What about higher mileages?
The maintenance schedule is cyclical, so once these thresholds are exceeded, you should repeat the frequencies (omitting the initial break-in). However, there are two critical long-term milestones you shouldn't forget:
- 37,000 km (24,000 miles): At this point, Yamaha requires the replacement of the air filter element (oil-coated paper).
- 42,000 km (26,600 miles): It's time for the valve clearance inspection and adjustment. This is a vital service that must be performed with the engine completely cold to avoid compression loss. You can learn more about the lifespan of parts in our guide.
Critical Maintenance Points
- Oil Capacity and Specification: Yamaha specifies the use of 4-stroke motorcycle oil that meets the JASO MA standard and a viscosity of SAE 10W-40. The exact capacity is 2.30 Liters if you only change the oil, and 2.60 Liters if you also replace the oil filter cartridge. An authorized workshop can assist you with this.
- Drive Chain: As this is a bike with a lot of initial thrust, the drive chain undergoes continuous wear. Its free play must be checked, and it should be strictly cleaned and lubricated every 1,000 km (600 miles) or after washing the bike or riding in the rain.
- Brakes and Coolant: Brake fluid must be changed strictly every 2 years. Additionally, the brake hoses have a recommended lifespan of 4 years before requiring replacement to maintain a firm and safe feel. Coolant requires changing every 3 years. Consult our maintenance calculator to estimate costs.
