The motorcycle market in September: what it means for your shop
Discover registration trends in September, the best-selling models, and how to use this information to adjust your workshop's stock and services this autumn.
For all of us behind the counter at a dealership or with greasy hands in the workshop, the end of summer marks a turning point in the calendar. At MotoCorner, we're launching the first edition of our monthly market panel for professionals, analyzing the motorcycle market for September 2026. Understanding how registrations have moved and what customers are buying right now will give you the keys to focus your sales, fine-tune your showroom, and prepare your business for the last quarter.
Motorcycle Market Snapshot September 2026: What the Data Says
According to the monthly report published by ANESDOR, the national association of two-wheel sector companies, just over 30,600 L-category vehicles (motorcycles, mopeds, tricycles, microcars, and quads) were registered in Spain in September, a 21.9% increase compared to the same month in 2025. For the year-to-date cumulative, the market exceeds 241,000 units, with a growth of 21.3%.
If we focus solely on motorcycles (scooters, motorcycles, and mopeds), September closed with around 29,200 registrations, a 21.2% increase compared to a year ago. And most relevant for your business: according to ANESDOR, all category markets are growing, without exception.
Reading these figures calmly, three ideas emerge that are worth clarifying:
- September was the month of the scooter. With over 17,100 units and growth close to 28%, the scooter accounted for almost 6 out of every 10 motorcycles registered in the month (for the year as a whole, its share is around 53%). Furthermore, September was approximately 25% above its monthly average for the year. The return to work, university, and traffic jams is noticeable, and how.
- Motorcycles continue to grow, but at a slower pace than the rest of the year. Nearly 10,800 units in September, a 13.7% increase compared to a year ago, practically in line with its monthly average. This is a good figure, but year-to-date this segment grows around 23%, so September was quieter for geared motorcycles than for scooters.
- Niches grow in high double digits. Tricycles, microcars, and quads/utility vehicles remain small volumes, but all are growing by over 30% in the month. If you work with any of these products, there is demand.
To take advantage of the moment, it's a good idea to feature your best motorcycles on digital portals and reach the customer who is deciding on their purchase right now.
What Does This Mean for Your Dealership or Workshop?
Adjust Your Stock of Vehicles and Equipment
If the bulk of registrations goes to scooters, your showroom area and your presence in our used motorcycle hub should reflect this. Have units ready for immediate delivery: the urban scooter buyer in September usually needs the bike "yesterday" to get to work, and if you don't have it, they'll buy it from someone else.
Geared motorcycles require a different approach. With a more relaxed pace this month, the trail or naked bike customer compares more and takes their time. It's time to work on value: test rides, clear financing, and "bike + equipment" packages that increase the average ticket. Here are some ideas for preparing your motorcycle gear and accessories shop this autumn.
Strategic Workshop Services
With a market that has accumulated over 240,000 new vehicles so far this year, the fleet passing through your workshop continues to grow. Many riders are returning from their summer trips and need a thorough check-up, and those buying used bikes want to get them in shape. Get ahead of the colder months and discover how to combat the low season in the workshop by filling your schedule with campaigns for tires, brake pads, and batteries.
An informed customer approves budgets more readily. Recommend the motorcycle maintenance cost calculator so they can see the value of preventive maintenance.
Every Month, the Market on One Page
We will publish this panel every month so you can adjust stock and campaigns with data, not intuition. Do you have a shop, workshop, or dealership? Register your business in the MotoCorner directory and receive it before anyone else.
