The Yamaha TMAX Tech Max 560 (2020) (code XP560D) is the undisputed king of high-end maxi-scooters. Powered by a refined 562cc twin-cylinder engine delivering 48 HP (35 kW), this vehicle combines urban comfort with sports motorcycle performance. To maintain its smooth and powerful acceleration, your motorcycle maintenance plan critically focuses on its dual transmission system (internal CVT belt and final drive belt), as well as the rigorous replacement of its fluids and ignition components on the 20,000 km cycle.

Maintenance Interval Table

Yamaha structures the European maintenance program for the TMAX 560 in main cycles of 10,000 kilometers or 1 year (whichever comes first), highlighting the major service at 20,000 km.

MileageTimeMain Tasks to Perform
1,000 km1 MonthBreak-in: Engine oil and oil filter change. Final drive belt tension check and brake operation.
10,000 km1 YearAnnual Service: Engine oil change. Variator system air filter cleaning (V-Belt). Brake pad, steering, and suspension check.
20,000 km2 YearsMajor Service (Service Kit): Oil and filter change. Strict replacement of the V-belt. Main air filter and variator filters replacement. Spark plug replacement. Brake fluid change.
30,000 km3 YearsAll tasks from the basic Annual Service are repeated (same as 10,000 km).
40,000 km4 YearsMajor Service: New complete Major Service (identical to 20,000 km, with CVT belt, filters, and spark plugs replacement), adding valve clearance inspection.

What Happens After 40,000 km?

Once the costly valve adjustment at 40,000 km is completed, the service manual indicates that the maintenance program restarts cyclically (omitting the 1,000 km break-in):

  • 50,000 km: Time to repeat the basic Annual Service.
  • 60,000 km: A new Major Service is due, so it is mandatory to replace the V-belt (CVT), filters, and spark plugs again.

Critical Maintenance Points

  • The Heart of the Transmission (V-Belt): The TMAX relies on an internal V-belt for its variator. Yamaha unequivocally requires its replacement every 20,000 km to prevent fatigue failure, which could cause serious internal damage or leave the bike immobilized. Those looking for an official maintenance plan for another Yamaha can check it out on our blog.
  • Final Belt Tension: Unlike most scooters, the final drive to the rear wheel is via an exposed toothed belt. Its tension (Drive Belt Tension) must be checked periodically with a specific tool to ensure smooth response and prolong its lifespan.
  • Specific Spark Plugs and Gap: This model uses specific high-performance NGK LMAR7G spark plugs. The electrode gap must be meticulously maintained between 0.7 mm and 0.8 mm. On our motorcycle forum, you can find more tips on maintaining your maxi-scooter.
  • Battery Location: Unlike other motorcycles where the battery (12V) is located under the seat, on the TMAX 560 it is found in the front part of the maxi-scooter, requiring the removal of a section of the front fairing/windscreen for replacement or deep charging.
  • Tire Pressure: To support the TMAX's 220 kg and ensure stability in corners, tire pressure should be 2.25 BAR at the front and 2.5 BAR at the rear for solo use. If riding with a passenger or heavy luggage, the rear should be increased to 2.8 BAR. To calculate the cost of all these checks, you can use our motorcycle maintenance calculator.
